No Hidden Path

Neil Rocking Rio 2008Throwback Thursday…

No Hidden Path ….WOW.

Rock In Rio Madrid, Argranda del Ray, Madrid, Spain.  2008.

“How you change, how you change,  how you rearrange everything that touches me.”

Thanks to the HH  German list for the reminder of this gem.

Rock in Rio is an event originating in Brazil. It is a series of music festivals held in three cities: Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Lisbon in Portugal and Madrid in Spain. In 2015, Las Vegas will be the fourth.

Five incarnations of the festival were in Rio de Janeiro, in 1985, 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2013, six in Lisbon, in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, and three in Madrid in 2008, 2010 and 2012.  In 2011, Rock in Rio returned to its original location, Rio de Janeiro, with a new line-up of singers and groups.

Rock in Rio is one of the largest music festival in the world, with 1.5 million people in the first edition, 700,000 in both the second and fourth editions, about 1.2 million in the third, and about 350,000 people in each of the 3 Lisbon editions.

PBS aired Bruce Tribute, Neil performs “Born in the USA”

Neil Young at Bruce Musicares

The 2013 “A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen” aired for the first time on Friday, Dec. 5 on  National Public Television.

The show ran from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The tribute was in honor of the rock icon’s influence and philanthropy over the years, and subsequently his MusicCares Person of the Year award. Neil plays “Born in the U.S.A.”

PBS used the event as a fund-raiser for public television and sold the CDs.

Here is an all-star line-up finale on “Glory Days.”

The 2013 ceremony  did air earlier this year on the AXS TV cable network, and clips from many of the individual performances have been floating around YouTube for awhile.

The lengthy show features 16 Bruce tunes covered by Sting, Elton John, Patti Smith, Neil Young and much more, as well as few songs performed by Springsteen himself.

Many of the performances were amazing. Atlantic City for one, was haunting…

GERMAN TEACHER AWARD FOR VIDEO MESSAGES TO NEIL YOUNG

10420347_867784709922675_3697744221506307439_n

Robert Henry gets the German teacher award 2014 as the only teacher from Berlin. He teaches at the Johann Gottfried Herder-Gymnasium in Lichtenberg. And with unusual methods. He let his students contact the phone messages for Neil Young.

Cell phones in class, and then the teacher nor the spread itself, allowing students to each other film – yes, it’s still working? Very good indeed does that, at least in this history lesson in Lichtenberger Johann Gottfried Herder-Gymnasium, in practice the ninth graders a video message to the singer Neil Young – and at least when their teacher Robert Henry’s. On Monday, the 41-year-old has been awarded the German teacher price – the only teacher in Berlin this year.

If you watch the lessons, we also understand what Neil Young has to do with the subject of history. His song “Cortez the Killer” the singer has allegedly already written as students in a history class in high school, probably in the early 1960s. The song is about the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes and the Conquest of Mexico. Like the Aztecs are represented in the song, all the women are beautiful, the men strong? Are not they a bit many stereotypes? And: “Is not the song a bit euro centric”, asking the students in her video message.

Since we are still catching up on BNB, and people are shopping for Christmas gifts, and the Neil Young store is pushing Cyber Monday today –  let’s visit a review of Young’s latest book: “Special Deluxe.”

BNB first wrote about the book’s release back in March.

This review appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel back in October.

→Neil Young takes winding road in his automotive memoir ‘Special Deluxe’

Writer Jon Gilbertson calls Young’s writing: “rambling and winding.” Some like this style, stating it feels just like sitting down with Neil on the front porch, talking.  Others lose interest with the rambling and walk away. Same with his last book: “Waging Heavy Peace.”

Gilberston writes:

“He isn’t kidding about the cars: he writes about seemingly every car his parents owned, then several cars he’s owned, plus trucks and buses. He draws or traces 42 of them literally to illustrate his vehicular rhapsodies and lamentations.

Young also uses his fondness for automobiles as a reason he moved from Canada to the United States — “that was where all the cool music came from, all the great cars” — and as a springboard into an admitted obsession with carbon-dioxide emissions and cleaner alternative fuels.

Long before Young has given his 11th (and by no means final) figure for how much CO2 was pumped into the atmosphere during one of his automotive trips, the fit reader has settled into the fidgeting of a nephew or niece hoping a garrulous old uncle will hurry toward the good parts of his life story.”

And of course Young touched on the new, so-called “love of his life.” Which is different than two years ago, when he professed his endearing and undying love for Pegi Young in WHP.

“Once Young gives the last few chapters over to the aforementioned obsession with environmentally responsible cars, it’s not helpful when he mentions similarly minded activist and actor Daryl Hannah, with whom he is currently, openly consorting after filing for divorce from Pegi, his wife of 36 years (“the next love of my life,” he writes about their early encounters; “soul mate,” he writes later).

Pono damage control

Aaany day now. Picture: Getty Images

Pono backers are getting email updates which are growing longer by the week addressing their many and varied concerns. Reading the latest, you have to feel sorry for whoever’s on damage control at Pono, according to an article in Business Insider, Australia.

As the headline of the article states: “Neil Young Is In The Middle Of A Crash Course Lesson On How Hard It Is To Keep Kickstarter Backers Happy.”

Under Productions & Shipments Update, there’s the ominous:

“Unfortunately much of what we experienced is par for the course for a consumer electronics startup. In fact, many of the top Kickstarter projects that have come before us experienced much greater challenges and significantly longer delays in the shipment of their rewards.”

From their Kickstarter page alone, Pono has 15,147 players to ship. They seem to be doing okay with that, having manufactured a tick over 12,000, with the rest on schedule for December 8 completion. But around 11,500 of those were pledged to be in backers’ hands sometime in October. That hasn’t happened.

The list of postponements goes on and on….
