so now even Rolling Stone has it, by referring to Thrasher and ArchiveGuy.
Andy Greene writes on January 23, 2012 :
“Neil Young is recording a new album with Crazy Horse, according to a post on Young’s fansite Thrasher’s Wheat – and now confirmed by Rolling Stone: “It’s looking good,” a representative for Young says. According to the fansite report, Young shared the news over the weekend at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, at an event with Jonathan Demme to promote their new movie Journeys.
The audience “erupted in applause” when Young said that he was working with Crazy Horse again. Multiple fans subsequently posted on Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina’s Facebook wall to ask if the news was true. His response: “Yes!”
Young began playing with the garage rock band in 1968 and they back him on many of his greatest albums, including Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Zuma, Rust Never Sleeps and Ragged Glory. Their last album was the 2003 rock opera Greendale, though it didn’t feature guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro. The band (including Poncho) toured with Young in 2003 and 2004 to support the disc, though they haven’t played together since the tour ended March 21st, 2004 at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts.
This has been the longest time Young has gone without performing with the group since their formation, though Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina played with Young on his 2007 disc Chrome Dreams II and the first few legs of the supporting tour. He was replaced by drummer Chad Cromwell in the summer of 2008 for unknown reasons.
The full line-up of Crazy Horse hasn’t backed Young on an album since Broken Arrow in 1996, though they did record an LP in 2000 called Toast that Neil opted to shelf. “It’s great rock & roll, very moody, kind of jazzy,” Young told Rolling Stone in 2008, who was then contemplating a release of the disc. “It’s really dark. It’s got everything that the best Crazy Horse albums have had. It won’t be the most commercial Crazy Horse album ever out.”
In that same interview, we asked Neil if he had any desire to work with Crazy Horse again. “I’m not thinking about that right now,” he said. “We’ll just see what happens. Something might happen. You never know. Or something else we don’t even know about could happen, and that would be really good, rather than go back. But if the vibe’s right to go back and grab what’s back there and yank it into the future, that’s a big job.”
According to the report on Thrasher’s Wheat, Young said that he’s already recorded one album with Crazy Horse and another is in the works.
It’s unclear if Toast is the finished album. There’s word of a spring release for the album, but don’t get your hopes up too high. Things change very quickly in the world of Neil Young. Remember that 30-date Buffalo Springfield that was supposedly happening this year?
A report from the coffee with Neil and Jonathan event by Bob & Kim C. reveals a stunning announcement…
… Neil Young has been recording with Crazy Horse . One album is complete and they are working on another.
No mention of content or time table.
Neil did talk about a group of Americana songs that he had recorded as well with a youth choir… and the Horse. When he spoke of recording with Crazy Horse again “the crowd erupted in applause”.
Thrasher reports that yesterday’s news “has been re-confirmed by Archives Guy as essentially accurate. Possible Spring release…” also: … Neil Young has been recording with Crazy Horse . One album is complete and they are working on another.
Neil Young, Jonathan Demme chat on ‘Journeys’ doc at Slamdance
January 18, 2012 | 12:46pm
Neil Youngand filmmaker Jonathan Demme will hold court Sunday at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where they’ll conduct a master class session about their latest collaborative music documentary, “Neil Young Journeys,” following its U.S. premiere screening Saturday at the festival.
The film follows Young on the trek from his hometown of Omemee, Canada, to Massey Hall in Toronto for the final two shows of his 2011 solo world tour. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer reminisces about childhood friends and talks about how the surroundings have changed over the decades while rolling toward Toronto in a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria.
It’s the third film the two have worked on together, following 2006’s “Neil Young: Heart of Gold” and 2010’s “Neil Young Trunk Show.”
“I have had the high pleasure and honor of sitting down with Neil two times before: [last fall] at the Toronto Fest and a couple of years back at Sundance, when we showed up with ‘Neil Young: Heart of Gold’,” Demme told Pop & Hiss. “Neil is extremely spontaneous and original in his thinking on all things musical and cinematic, so it’s really a blast for me to get to do something like this with him. We’re very, very excited that Slamdance has invited us to have our USA premiere with them this weekend.”
The “Journeys” program will be preceded by the first screening of a 13-minute mini-documentary Demme shot in October of an Occupy Wall Street drum circle gathering.
The 2012 Slamdance Festival, highlighting works from independent filmmakers, runs Friday through Jan. 26. Special events also include a screening Tuesday of “With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story,” about the pioneering comic book artist from directors Will Hess, Nikki Frakes and Terry Dougas. The film screening will be preceeded by a morning master class session with Lee and Hess.
Company founded by Neil Young sued over warehouse fire sparked by hybrid car

The company founded by rocker Neil Young to convert his one-of-a-kind LincVolthybrid electric car is being sued for nearly $500,000 after the vehicle sparked a fire that seriously damaged two San Carlos warehouses in 2010, according to a lawsuit.
The suit, filed Tuesday by Unigard Insurance Co., says LincVolt LLC, which lists Young as an officer, was negligent when it converted the 1959 Lincoln Continental to run on electricity and a biodiesel-powered generator.
“The altering of a gas-powered 1959 vehicle and its components is an extreme departure from what a reasonably careful person would do,” Unigard Insurance Co. claims in the suit filed in San Mateo County Superior Court. [1]
A malfunction while the car was charging set off a three-alarm blaze on Quarry Road on Nov. 9, 2010, that caused about $1 million in damage. Most of the damage was done to a lifetime of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia — instruments, photos and film footage as well as the Lincoln — Young had stored in the warehouse.
The La Honda resident did not immediately respond to a request for comment, which was routed to his management.
Unigard claims it paid out $482,000 to Al Schick, the owner of the building, to cover damage caused by the fire. The blaze started in the neighboring warehouse, which also belongs to Schick, and was rented out to Young. Unigard is suing to get that money back from LincVolt LLC.
Attorney Peter Lynch, who lodged the suit on behalf of Unigard, didn’t respond to a phone message seeking comment. Schick, who continues to rent a warehouse to Young, declined to talk abut the suit but said he and Young are on good terms.
“I’ve never had any problems with Neil,” he added. “They were very responsive” after the fire.
One of the biggest casualties of the fire was the Lincoln itself. Young assembled a team of workers in 2008 to convert the 19½-foot, 2½ ton behemoth from gasoline to hybrid power, an effort he chronicled in a four-part film series. But after the fire, it was left a burned-out shell.
Young opted to have the vehicle rebuilt, and the progress has been tracked by posts on the website devoted to the Lincoln. As of Friday, the car was in Orange County undergoing driving tests. It will be headed back to Brizio Street Rods in South San Francisco before heading up to Sacramento for painting.
The website promises that the rebuilt version will be as unique as its precursor.
“LincVolt has been redesigned in and out,” the website says. An aerodynamic cover on the Lincoln’s underside will help in “reducing drag and allowing LincVolt to cut through the air more efficiently than ever before at high speeds.”

[1] if it wasn’t so much fun, this is hilarious! “what a reasonably careful person would do,” Unigard Insurance Co. claims” hahahaha! Those lame staticians from an insurance company would know what a risk is?
“Pearl Jam is a band I have a lot of respect for. Nirvana and Sonic Youth I feel the same way about. Mumford & Sons, My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Givers, and Foo Fighters are just some of my favorites. I respect bands that give me something of themselves that I can feel. (\"Posing\" bands turn me off generally speaking.) It all has to do with a feeling I have about them. That is what music is to me, a feeling. It\'s similar with people too.” by ? Neil Young, Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream
