Last year Buffalo Springfield reunited for a seven-date tour, but an additional planned 30 dates were called off with little explanation. In the new issue of Rolling Stone, Neil Young says he’s not completely closed off to the idea of touring with the group at some point in the future.
“That could happen,” says Young, who will release his first album with Crazy Horse in nine years this week. “But it’s not happening now. I’d be on a tour of my past for the rest of fucking time, which I can’t do. I have to be able to move forward. I can’t be relegated. I did enough of it for right then, but there is this seed of something great still there. It’s worth exploring again.”

Neil Young & Crazy Horse has been in the studio again. At last!
This time the result is a collection of songs, cover versions – one might say, of old American folk songs. Songs available in the U.S. It makes the album is initially hard to understand for those not versed in Americana, folk and other traditional music from the United States.
Young & Crazy Horse takes his choice of songs and ”crazy horses” them. Drums and guitars all over the place. Not as much feedback as expected, but .. yes, it still sounds good on the guitars. It’s hard and heavy. No remorse at all, this is not. It should not be beautiful, it must be like being stuck in a barbed wire and out comes the farmer and turns on the power .. it is ”Crazy Horse”.

9:27 p.m. CDT, June 3, 2012, 3.5 stars (out of 4)
String together songs such as “Cortez the Killer,” “Pocahontas,” “Like an Inca,” “Powderfinger,” “Goin’ Home” and others from throughout Neil Young’s career, and you get a Howard Zinn-like alternative history of New World conquest, an accounting of what has been lost by indigenous people and the environment to violence and greed.
With “Americana” (Reprise), Young funnels that worldview through a series of folk standards, some so ancient and familiar that they are now thought of as quaint, children’s songs, ingrained in the heads of kindergartners by the million. But these songs also tell a deeper story about how America was built, and the album lays it out without sugarcoating.

Neil Young CD: $10. Neil Young LP: $42
Neil Young values a high-fidelity listening experience. He’s betting that his fans do, too.
When “Americana,” the rocker’s first album in nine years featuring his legendary backing band Crazy Horse, comes out June 5, the CD will be sold on Amazon.com for an iTunes-competitive $9.99. The site is offering a vinyl LP for $42.38, or $3.85 per song.
Granted, you get some vinyl bang for your buck. “Americana” will come on two discs of super-heavy, audiophile grade 180-gram vinyl—pressed in Germany, no less. Side 4, instead of featuring music, will come engraved with an etching of a Native American figure riding horseback. Liner notes will offer histories of the album’s 11 folks tunes, like “Oh Susannah” and “This Land Is Your Land,” reworked by Young and his band in their chugging, hard-rocking style.

… “Young summarized his feelings on the need for better sound quality with a rallying cry that might apply to his pricing strategy, too: “Occupy audio!”
