Neil says he will come to Chicago

Neil Young with CBC T-shirtShar is happy!

Said in a recent  interview with Rolling Stone.

Sometime after the Dolby shows. Date not yet announced

What else do you have going on this year? I got that  record we talked about. I’m  playing the Dolby Theater in L.A. in a couple of weeks for four nights. It’s  a beautiful acoustic hall, so I’m playing there solo acoustic. Then I play  Dallas a couple of weeks later, they have a beautiful concert hall there. Then I  go up to Chicago, just solo acoustic. This summer I play with Crazy Horse and I  do the Pono thing.

This is a fun statement:

I was thinking about another time when you were dissatisfied with  sound — there’s a story that you bought 200,000 copies of Comes a  Time in 1978 and then destroyed them. Oh, that was because it  was a mastering error. The tape got damaged when it went through the airport or  something. I had to go back and use a copy of the master — it was a copy, but it  had better-sounding playback than the other one.

Did you take a shotgun to the albums? No, no, I made a  barn roof out of them. I used them as shingles.

Neil Young’s Agenda: Jack White Project, Second Book, ‘Full-Blown Orchestra’ Album

neil_young at SXSWNeil Young tells Billboard we can expect to hear “A Letter Home,” the album he recorded at Jack White’s Third Man studio in Nashville, “very soon,” most likely this spring.

The idea for “A Letter Home” appeared to be hatched by a version of Bert Jansch’s “The Needle of Death,” which Young recorded for Record Store Day 2013 in White’s 1947 Voice-o-Graph booth. “They’re songs that I love, songs that changed my life, songs that made it so that I understood what someone else was saying to me, songs by greater writers.”

Also,  if Young has his way, he’ll also do something symphonic in the near future.

“I’d like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live — a mono recording with one mic,” he explains. “I want to do something like that where we really record what happened, with one point of view and the musicians moved closer and farther away, the way it was done in the past. To me that’s a challenge and it’s a sound that’s unbelievable, and you can’t get it any other way. So I’m into doing that.”

Young is also in “the final editing stages” for his second book, “Special Deluxe,” a follow-up to his 2012 memoir “Waging Heavy Peace.” This book, Young says, will be out this year and “focuses on my life as regards to my transportation, as regards to my love for cars. So it’s a history through automobiles, and it’s a history of automobiles and it’s a history of the environmental impact of automobiles. And it’s a projection into the future of automobiles. It has it’s own agenda that develops over the book.”

‘Time Fades Away’ to be re-released in box set April 19

Time Fades AwayGood news for record-spinners and collectors of Neil Young on Vinyl.

After considerable delay, “Time Fades Away,” Neil Young‘s live album from 1973, will finally be re-released. The record has been kept out-of-print for years by Young, who called it “a total joke” and “the worst record I ever made” in 1987, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

The record will only be available on vinyl as part of Record Store Day on April 19.

It will be sold as part of a box set including “On the Beach,” “Tonight’s the Night” and “Zuma.” Production of the 180-gram vinyl set will be limited to 3,500 copies.

LA Weekly celebrates shows with “Best Album” pick

American-Stars-n-Bars-thumb-500x500“Neil Young Is Coming! This Is His Best Album Ever,” the articled starts out in LA Weekly review.

“When we were good and drunk, we would put Neil Young’s American Stars ‘n Bars on the record player,” writes music critic Kai Flanders. He talks about his favorite  album in celebration of Neil Young’s threeupcoming  shows at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, March 29 and 30, and April 1.

He’s a great storyteller, you will enjoy this one.

“Often, the melancholy waltz of American Stars ‘n Bars would soundtrack our drinking sessions. Stars is Young’s eighth studio album, which came out in 1977 on the heels of Zuma and the Ditch Trilogy. Upon its release Rolling Stone declared, ‘Right now … it would be just about impossible to overrate Neil Young.’ The storied guitar work on “Like A Hurricane” is balanced by the earnest yearning of ‘Hey Babe.'”
